Orders and deposits
How are your pigs raised?
Our pigs live outdoors their whole lives. They're never housed indoors, and we don't use farrowing crates. We don't castrate: boys are processed at four to five months, and girls are grown out to eight or nine months. See how we raise our pigs and end of life.
How do I order meat?
We open online ordering from time to time, when processing is coming up, such as Christmas hams or when we have several head of beef to process. Join the notify list and we'll let you know when orders open. When we have stock, our pork, beef, lamb, goat and smallgoods are also sold at the Fingal Post Office, in the centre of Fingal.
How do Christmas ham pre-orders work?
Choose your hams, pick a collection point and pay a $50 deposit per ham. If we can't supply or deliver your order, or we change your collection date or place and it doesn't suit you, we'll refund your deposit in full within a week. If an order isn't collected, the deposit is forfeited. This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Hams are $44/kg and the balance is paid at collection, once we've weighed your ham. We've sold out early the last couple of years, so order early. Orders close Friday 18 December unless sold out prior. Deliveries Saturday–Sunday 19–20 December. Delivery times will be announced closer to the date. See Christmas hams.
Do you have beef or lamb prices?
We process a few times a year, so prices are set for each batch. See the guide prices for beef. Register your interest and we'll send the details when the next processing dates are set.
Pickup
When are pickup and delivery times?
Pickup and delivery times will be emailed to buyers and posted on Facebook once confirmed.
Where do I pick up?
At the Fingal Post Office, in the centre of Fingal, open Mon to Fri 9am to 3:30pm. Bring a cooler bag! Christmas hams have their own collection points around Tasmania. Get directions
Stockfeed delivery
Do you deliver stockfeed?
Yes. Delivery is free for 2+ bags on our regular runs, mix and match, otherwise $5 (inc GST). Pickup from Fingal Post Office is free.
Can I subscribe?
Yes, subscribe and save 5%. On our weekly runs you can choose weekly, fortnightly, every 3 weeks, monthly, every 6 weeks or every 2 months. On our monthly Midlands and far East Coast runs it's monthly or every 2 months. Order 10+ bags for another 5% off any single delivery. Order stockfeed.
Hunting & Camping
Can I just camp?
Yes. Choose "Camping only (no shooting)" when you book. Camping only is $110 a night per group, and hunting is from $192.50 per hunter, first night. Camping bookings are open now.
Is there a minimum stay?
Yes. Friday and Saturday nights need a minimum 2-night stay all year, and every booking in fallow buck season (late February to early April) needs at least 2 nights. Sunday to Thursday you can book a single night outside buck season.
How much is a hunting night?
Hunting is from $192.50 per hunter, first night. Each night's price covers up to 2 shooting adults: night 1 $385, night 2 $275, night 3 $220, night 4 $165, and from night 5 onwards it's 20% off, so $132 a night. The discount applies from night 5 only, never the whole booking. Each extra shooting adult (3rd and up) is $55 a night (max 8 shooters, 10 guests per group, plus up to 4 children under 5), and youth shooters aged 14 to 17 with their parent or guardian are $22 a night. Kids and non-shooting adults are free. Camping only is $110 a night per group, and for camping it's book 4 nights in a row, get the 5th free ($88 a night from 5 nights in a row). All prices include GST.
What do I need?
Every shooter needs a current firearms licence and insurance (for example SSAA membership), and must do our site induction. Hunting is available year round. Each hunter needs their own current firearms licence. Game ducks and brown quail can only be taken in their open season, and you need a game licence for them. A game licence is also needed if you take wallaby or deer off the property (carcasses, meat, skins or trophies). If you plan to take a possum off the property, check with NRE Tasmania whether you need a game licence first. See hunting and our booking terms. Bring proof of current public liability insurance, for example an SSAA membership card. We'll sight it at induction along with your licences.
Can I cancel?
Yes. If you cancel more than 7 days before your booked date, we'll refund you within a week, less a cancellation fee: $55 plus 2.2% of the booking total for hunting, or $22 plus 2.2% for camping only. If you cancel within 7 days of your booking start date, or don't turn up, there's no change-of-mind refund. This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, or a refund or new date if we cancel. Hunting stays: see the hunting booking terms. Camping-only stays: see the camping booking terms.
Chickens and eggs
Do you deliver hens?
No, point-of-lay hens are pickup only, from the farm. Alternatively, when we have a large volume of point-of-lay hens ready, we will have them available on a pre-scheduled weekend day at the Fingal Post Office for pickup.
Can I buy chicken meat?
No, we don't sell chicken meat.
If I buy a live rooster or hen, can you dispatch it for me?
No. Live birds must leave the farm alive. We can't process or kill birds sold as live animals (legal issues around selling meat).
How are hatching eggs sent?
We post them with Australia Post in Eggspress Safe containers to Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland and South Australia. We don't post to WA or NT. Order fertile hatching eggs.
Live animals
If I buy a live animal, can you dispatch or process it for me?
No. Live animals must leave the farm alive. We can't kill or process animals sold as live (legal issues around selling meat).
If I'm buying live cattle, sheep, goats or pigs, do I need a PIC?
Yes. We won't sell those animals without your Property Identification Code (PIC), and we complete the appropriate transfer paperwork before they leave.
Fingal Post Office
When is the Post Office open?
Mon to Fri 9am to 3:30pm, at the Fingal Post Office, in the centre of Fingal.
Can I get a PO Box?
Yes, PO Boxes are available, with pricing set by Australia Post. We've also got parcel lockers. You can apply online with Australia Post or come into the Fingal Licensed Post Office and apply in person. Ask at the counter if you need a hand.
The farm
Where is the farm?
At Tower Hill, in North East Tasmania. We own our Pig Creek farm and lease Fonthill Farm next door (more about the farm). It's a working farm, so it isn't open for drop-in visits. Read about the farm.
Can I just drop in and visit the farm?
No. It's a working farm and not open for casual visits. Workers may be offsite at times on deliveries, collecting stock, transporting livestock, packing meat, sorting mail at the Post Office, and the like - but someone is usually on site. Guests may already be here for camping or hunting, and the whole farm can have active shooting at any time. Booked activities and arranged pickups are fine; please don't turn up unannounced.
Can I share farm with you?
We're open to hearing from people who'd like to run their own enterprise on part of the land. See Share the farm.
