Hunting booking terms
The fine print for booking a night on the farm, kept as plain as we can. Version 1.4 (22 October 2026).
These terms are between you (the group contact, on behalf of everyone in your group) and Pig Creek Homestead Pty Ltd, trading as Primal Pastures, ABN 94 635 523 385. Post: PO Box 404, Fingal TAS 7214. Our farm is at Tower Hill.
Please also read our hunting waiver, Waiver v1.4 (printable PDF). If you're booking just for yourself, you sign Waiver v1.4 online when you book. If you're booking for a group, you tick to confirm as group lead, and every shooter prints, signs and brings their own copy of Waiver v1.4 to the induction. No one hunts until they've signed it.
1. Bookings
- Primal Pastures is a working farm. Staff and contractors may be on site from time to time, so always positively identify your target and what's beyond it, and treat any vehicle or person as present.
- Every group must bring a UHF CB radio (handheld or vehicle), so we can contact you and you can contact us. We give you the channel at the induction or in your pre-arrival email.
- Bookings are per night: check-in is from 3 pm, and check-out is by 1 pm on the day you leave. Take all your rubbish with you when you leave. Only one group is booked per night.
- Each booking is for one group only. We don't grant year-round or exclusive hunting rights, so the property may host a different group on another night. Our family and workers may be on the farm doing farm work.
- Your booking is confirmed once payment is made and you get our confirmation email.
- Every shooter named in the booking must be the person who turns up to hunt.
- As a condition of every booking, each group sends us one take return, before leaving the property or within 24 hours of leaving, so we can keep accurate records. If nothing was taken, the return still needs to be sent, marked "Nothing taken".
1A. Camping only and minimum stay
- Can I just camp? Yes. Choose "Camping only (no shooting)" when you book. Camping only is $110 a night per group, and hunting is from $192.50 per hunter, first night. Camping bookings are open now. See our camping terms.
- Is there a minimum stay? Yes. Friday and Saturday nights need a minimum 2-night stay all year, and every booking in fallow buck season (late February to early April) needs at least 2 nights. Sunday to Thursday you can book a single night outside buck season.
2. Price and payment
- A stay with hunting allowed is priced per night, per group, covering up to 2 shooting adults: night 1 $385, night 2 $275, night 3 $220, night 4 $165, and night 5 onwards $132 (20% off, from night 5 only), plus $55 per night for each extra shooting adult (3rd and up) (max 8 shooters) and $22 per night for each youth shooter aged 14 to 17 shooting with their parent or guardian. Kids and non-shooting adults are free. Camping only (no shooting) is $110 per night, per group. All prices include GST.
- Hunting: the 20% discount applies from night 5 of a run of nights in a row onwards only (including extra shooters on those nights), never to the whole booking. Each run of nights in a row starts again at night 1. Camping only: book 4 nights in a row, get the 5th free: for a run of 5 or more consecutive nights, every night in that run is $88 instead of $110.
- Max 8 shooters and 10 guests per group, plus up to 4 children under 5, and up to 4 vehicles per group (e.g. 2 towing vehicles + 2 UTVs/ATVs, BYO). Caravans welcome. Some camping areas aren't caravan-accessible, so let us know when booking and we'll point you to a suitable site. Camping only: up to 10 adults and adolescents, plus up to 4 children under 5 (free). Non-shooting adults and kids aged 5 and over count toward the 10-guest limit (children under 5 are free and don't count), sign the waiver and attend the induction. Anyone who handles or fires a firearm is a shooter and needs their own licence and insurance.
- Payment is made in full when you book, through Square. Unpaid holds are released after 30 minutes.
3. Cancellations and refunds
- If you cancel more than 7 days before your booked date, we'll refund you within a week, less a cancellation fee of $55 plus 2.2% of the booking total.
- If you cancel within 7 days of your booking start date, or don't turn up, there's no change-of-mind refund. This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, or a refund or new date if we cancel (see below).
- We may decline a booking, or cancel one, if the property isn't safe or available (for example fire danger, flooding, storm damage or farm work), or if the booking terms or farm rules haven't been met. If we decline or cancel, you'll choose between a full refund within a week, including processing fees, or a new date.
To cancel, email [email protected] with your booking reference.
4. Licence and insurance
- Every shooter must hold a current firearms licence for the firearms they bring, valid for every night of the booking.
- Every shooter must hold current public liability insurance that covers hunting, for example through membership of the SSAA (Sporting Shooters' Association of Australia) or your own policy.
- Shooters aged 14 to 17 must hold a Tasmanian minor's permit for field shooting and be directly supervised by an insured adult who has held a full firearms licence for at least a year. No under-14s in the field.
- Licence and insurance details are given when you book, and the documents must be shown on arrival.
- A game licence is needed if you take wallaby or deer off the property (carcasses, meat, skins or trophies). It also covers game ducks and brown quail in their open seasons, and to shoot ducks you must also have passed the Waterfowl Identification Test. If you plan to take a possum off the property, check with NRE Tasmania whether you need a game licence first.
- Hares need no game licence. Anything you take, including hares, is for your own personal use only and must not be sold.
- No licence or insurance, no hunting.
5. Site induction and paperwork
- Every shooter must complete our site induction before hunting.
- We look after the paperwork with the relevant authorities before your visit; you need your own current firearms licence and, for ducks and quail, a game licence. There is no shooting within 125 m of any dwelling unless agreed otherwise with us in writing beforehand. A game licence is also needed if you take wallaby or deer off the property (carcasses, meat, skins or trophies). If you plan to take a possum off the property, check with NRE Tasmania whether you need a game licence first.
- The group lead ticks the safety acknowledgements once when booking, on behalf of the whole group, and is responsible for making sure everyone in the group follows them.
- Every hunter must not have been convicted of a relevant wildlife offence (opens in a new tab) in the past 5 years, and must tell us within 14 days if convicted of a wildlife or firearms offence before or during your stay.
- Follow any direction from a wildlife officer.
- Every animal must be killed quickly and humanely. Only take shots you are confident will kill cleanly, and follow up and dispatch any wounded animal straight away. This includes humanely killing any dependent young.
- Fallow deer may only be taken with a rifle of at least 6mm (.240) calibre that delivers at least 1350 joules at 100 m.
- No meat, skins or other products from animals taken here may be sold.
6. Farm rules
The same simple rules as on the Hunting & Shooting page:
- Clean up after yourself (take your rubbish and spent shells home).
- Don't shoot livestock.
- Don't damage the seedlings or trees.
- Please bring your own firewood. Small quantities of camper firewood (enough for a couple of days) are available at $55 inc GST, subject to availability. Larger loads of sustainable firewood won't be available until winter 2028.
- Follow Total Fire Ban days and fire restrictions from the Tasmania Fire Service.
- No campfires during Total Fire Ban periods.
- Please don't leave offal or carcasses next to tracks or roads. Leave them out in the scrub or pasture instead, where they feed our native scavengers, including wedge-tailed eagles and spotted-tailed and eastern quolls, then break down naturally and return to the soil.
- Lead-free ammunition is preferred but not compulsory, except ducks, where non-toxic shot is required by law.
7. Firearms safety
- Follow Tasmanian firearms law and the firearms safety code at all times.
- Treat every firearm as loaded. Be sure of your target and what's beyond it.
- No shooting within 125 m of any dwelling unless agreed otherwise with us in writing beforehand. Respect the no-shoot zones on the farm map.
- No alcohol or drugs while firearms are out.
- Firearms unloaded in vehicles and in camp, and stored safely.
- Night shooting is allowed, including spotlighting, thermal and night vision, and shooting is allowed 24/7 during your booking, with extra care at night. Quads and UTVs are allowed.
- Leave remains well away from creeks, dams, tracks and camping areas, and pick up all spent cartridges.
- Hi-vis (an orange vest or cap) is recommended for hunters, not required.
- Identify every animal before you shoot. Protected wildlife lives here, including bettongs, wombats, native hens, quolls and wedge-tailed eagles. See who else lives on the farm.
8. Your risk and responsibility
Hunting and camping on a working farm carry real risks, including firearms, rough and steep ground, creeks, fences, livestock, vehicles, weather, bushfire and wildlife. By booking, you and each member of your group:
- accept these risks and take part at your own risk;
- are responsible for your own safety, your group, your firearms, vehicles and gear;
- are responsible for any damage your group causes to the property, stock, fences, trees or seedlings; and
- release Pig Creek Homestead Pty Ltd and its people from liability for injury, loss or damage arising from the obvious and inherent risks of hunting and camping, to the extent the law allows, including the Civil Liability Act 2002 (Tas). This doesn't apply to gross negligence or anything the law says can't be excluded.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can't be excluded.
9. Privacy
We use your details to run your booking and meet our legal obligations. See our privacy policy.
Guest vehicles
Bringing your own UTV, quad or 4WD? Good on you, the tracks are half the fun. A few simple rules keep everyone safe:
- Your vehicle must be registered or insured, and every driver must hold a current licence.
- Wear a helmet on a quad, and no passengers on a single-seat quad.
- No one under 16 drives.
- Stay on marked tracks and keep to 20 km/h on all farm tracks.
- Guests don't operate any farm machinery or farm vehicles.
Your guest waiver covers vehicle use. See the camping waiver or the hunting waiver.
