You don't have to give money to make a difference. When you buy our stockfeed, pasture-raised meat, or book a camping or hunting slot, that money goes straight back into regenerating the farm: building soil, planting trees, swales and water, fencing and caring for the land and animals.

One certificate per order, not one per tree. It lists each species and how many trees.
Name the shelterbelt: a full 500-tree order earns the right to name the shelterbelt.
Names are checked before use.
This is a wish, not part of your purchase. If it's safe for the farm (not toxic to stock, not weedy, and no risk of problem honey) and stems are available, we may plant it instead of your chosen tree. Otherwise we'll plant your chosen tree.

Your tree will be planted on our own land at Tower Hill, in the shelter belts, fodder rows, orchard and timber plantings around Pig Creek farm. We choose fodder, bee, orchard and timber trees that suit the frosty inland valley, native where possible, and never species that are declared weeds in Tasmania, and any tree that's toxic to stock only goes in fenced blocks with stock kept out. Fodder plantings aren't established yet, so the grazing below is what they will do once they're grown.
The trees we plan to plant
Fodder trees
- Tree lucerne (tagasaste) (Chamaecytisus palmensis). A fast, evergreen fodder shrub that will feed our animals through the lean months. Bees love its winter flowers. Planted in spring on drained slopes, away from frost hollows. We'll manage it as browse once established: trimmed back after flowering, before the pods set, and kept away from the bush and the creek, as explained on our silvopasture page.
- Sterile fodder willow (Salix × reichardtii). One of the willows exempt from Tasmania's weed declaration. It will give drought fodder from the damp gullies, plus early spring pollen for bees.
- Oldman saltbush (Atriplex nummularia). A silvery shrub that will act as a living haystack for summer and autumn browsing. Only a few go in as a trial on sunny, well-drained slopes, as it prefers lower, milder country.
- Silver wattle (Acacia dealbata). Our own local wattle. It fixes nitrogen, its golden late-winter pollen feeds the bees, and its foliage will be occasional browse.
- White mulberry (Morus alba). Its leaves are high in protein, so it will be browsed by cattle, sheep and goats, and the fallen fruit will go to the pigs.
- Hybrid poplar (Populus). Poplars will grow into shade and summer fodder. They'll be pollarded so their leaves stay in reach.
Orchard trees
We source heritage varieties as they become available.
- Apple (Malus domestica). Apples for us, and windfalls for the pigs and sheep.
- Pear (Pyrus communis). Long-lived pears that will shade the stock and drop fruit in autumn.
- Quince (Cydonia oblonga). Big fragrant fruit and pale spring blossom the bees adore.
- Plum (Prunus domestica). Plums for the farm kitchen. Planted in the pig paddocks.
- Olive (cold-hardy cultivars) (Olea europaea). Olives on our warmest north slopes, as a test of how high in the valley they'll grow.
Nut trees
- Hazelnut (Corylus avellana). A hazel grove for our nuts, and its winter catkins give bees their first pollen.
- Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa). A long-lived nut tree. Its chestnuts will fatten the pigs in autumn.
- English walnut (Juglans regia). Walnuts while it grows, and fine timber in time.
Bee and shelter natives
- Woolly tea-tree and manuka (Leptospermum lanigerum and L. scoparium). A local native that copes with frost and wet feet, makes manuka-style honey and gives shelter for stock.
- Prickly box (Christmas bush) (Bursaria spinosa). A hardy local native. Its summer flowers feed bees and the native wasps that keep pasture pests down.
- Alpine bottlebrush (Callistemon pallidus). A Tasmanian native with creamy brushes full of nectar for bees and honeyeaters.
Timber trees
- Snow gum (Eucalyptus pauciflora). A white-trunked gum for shelter, shade and summer honey flow.
- Alpine ash (Tasmanian oak) (Eucalyptus delegatensis). Tasmania's classic hardwood, grown for future sawlogs and summer bee forage.
- Celery-top pine (Phyllocladus aspleniifolius). A rare, slow-growing Tasmanian timber planted for the next generation.
- Small-leaved lime (linden) (Tilia cordata). A traditional European leaf-fodder tree that will also give a big summer nectar flow.
Fenced plantings (stock excluded)
These trees are toxic to some livestock, so they will only go in fenced blocks with the affected stock kept out.
- Truffle oak (Quercus robur). A long-lived oak for timber. Stock excluded: it will grow in a fenced block, with the fence well beyond the canopy so acorns and leaves can't reach the paddocks, and no stock inside.
- Black walnut (Juglans nigra). A prized furniture timber. Stock excluded: horses kept out of the block, shavings never used as bedding, and planted well away from orchard and fodder rows.
- Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia). A tough timber tree with bee-friendly flowers. Stock excluded: a fenced block with no stock access, and any suckers outside the fence removed.
- Elder (Sambucus nigra). Flowers and berries for the farm kitchen. Stock excluded: inside the fenced house orchard or garden only, with prunings removed before stock go near.
Sponsored fodder trees are part of our own fodder planting, not the carbon project.
Fodder tree packs (fodder species only)
Pack prices apply to fodder species only, counted across your whole order. Your total uses the cheapest mix of packs, plus single fodder trees at $42.00 each. For example, 35 fodder trees is a 25 pack plus a 10 pack, $1,310.00. Other trees have no bulk discount. All prices include GST.

Your digital certificate is included. Once your trees are in the ground, we'll email it to you. It will show your first name, the species, the shelter belt, and a map with GPS coordinates of the planting area (the area, not individual trees).
If your tree dies within 5 years, we'll replace it. The replacement may be a different species better suited to the spot.
Sponsored trees will go into our own fodder, shelter, orchard and timber plantings, kept completely separate from our carbon project. Some species also grow in the carbon project, but a sponsored tree is never part of it, and tree fodder is never counted as carbon.
We'll save up sponsorships and order nursery stock ahead, and planting will start in late spring 2027.
A Sponsor a Tree package is a purchase from a business: it is priced inc GST and a tax invoice is issued.
Sponsor a Tree terms
Supply: If we can't source your chosen tree, we'll plant a similar tree from the same price group instead.
If we can't supply your chosen species: we'll tell you and you can choose a tree of our choice instead or a full refund, with no fees taken off.
Change of mind: If you change your mind before your tree is planted, contact us and we'll refund your sponsorship less a cancellation fee of $5 plus 2.2% of the amount paid. Once your tree is planted, we can't offer change-of-mind refunds.
Your rights: Nothing in these terms excludes or limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Contributions are gifts to a private business, so no tax invoice is issued. All amounts are in AUD.
Bay Window repairs
We lease the old Fingal Post Office, and with the owner's agreement we're taking on repairs to its bay window. Its ornamental bay window has been part of the main street for more than a century, and it's tired. Timber at the base and between the right-hand panes has rotted, and in one spot there's nothing left holding a hinge in place.
We want to fix it properly: repair or replace only the rotten timber, keep the original glass, and put back period hardware to match the rest of the building. The work will be done under heritage approval from Heritage Tasmania, as the building is on the Tasmanian Heritage Register. Quotes so far range from $25,000 to $45,000. Money raised goes only to the bay window repairs, and we'll post progress updates here. This isn't an Australia Post fundraiser, and Australia Post isn't involved.
