South Esk River

The South Esk is Tasmania's longest river, about 245 km (Geoscience Australia). It rises near Upper Esk on the eastern slopes of Ben Lomond and runs past Mathinna, Fingal and Avoca, where the St Pauls River joins. It carries on to Launceston, where it meets the North Esk to form the Tamar. Lt-Col Paterson named it in 1804.
